Is very similar to summer truffle, so much so that some consider it to be a variant of Aestivum. Gleba is darker than nero estivo, almost chocolaty in the more mature truffles.

Tuberous in shape, sometimes divided into lobes, with brown and black skin made of warts, smaller than the white truffle it can reach the size of an apple. It’s flesh is light brown, furrowed with white stripes.

This is the most common sort in Istria harvested almost throughout the year. In comparison with white trufflwe  its smell and taste is less intensive and more subtle.
